Chicago Marathon, 13 October 2002

- This is a World Class Race of 26.2 miles through downtown Chicago.  Course included many ethnic neighborhoods as well as the downtown skyscrapers - Sears Tower.

- Paula Radcliffe of England shattered the women's record by 89 seconds.

- Christina Wells of Owensboro was the third American Woman across the
finish line and 13th female runner overall.  This puts Christina at the
World Class level.  Christina won the Derby Marathon in April, 2002. Her time for Chicago was 2:40:23.

- Approx. 400 Kentucky runners ran the race.

-  Weather was cold and windy but the sun came out and that kept us from freezing.

-  Fairly flat course makes it good for world records.

-  Male winner, Khalid Khannouchi, is the male world record holder for the
marathon.
